this is what you can control in the&nbsp;<em>Lighting tab<\/em>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<em>Project panel<\/em>&nbsp;or via the&nbsp;<em>Main Menu<\/em>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<em>Lighting.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"lighting-tab-render-technique\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lighting_tab_%E2%80%93_Render_Technique\"><\/span>Lighting tab &#8211; Render Technique<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<em>Lighting tab<\/em>&nbsp;you can control the interpretation of lighting in your scene. KeyShot comes with a number of presets which you can select between or customize into your own&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot11\/manual\/lighting\/custom-lighting-presets\/\">Custom Lighting Presets<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-Performance\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Performance\"><\/span>Performance<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This preset disables light source materials and shadows with reduced bounces for the fastest performance possible. This is useful for scene setup and quick manipulation. The option is also available in the Ribbon. The Performance mode can also be toggled from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot11\/manual\/user-interface-2\/ribbon\/\">Ribbon<\/a>&nbsp;or the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot11\/manual\/user-interface-2\/main-menu\/\">Main Menu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-Basic\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Basic\"><\/span>Basic<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This preset provides simple, direct lighting with shadows for basic scenes and fast performance. This is useful for rendering simple models illuminated by the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-Product\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Product\"><\/span>Product<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This preset provides direct and indirect lighting with shadows. This is useful for products with transparent materials illuminated by the environment and local lighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-Interior\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Interior\"><\/span>Interior<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This setting features direct and indirect lighting with shadows that is optimized for interior illumination. This is intended for complex interior illumination with indirect lighting; although it can also be used to avoid noise created by local lights and provide more accurate sampling of HDRIs with very small and strong light sources such as Sun &amp; Sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-Jewelry\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Jewelry\"><\/span>Jewelry<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This setting features the same settings as the Interior preset with the addition of Ground Illumination, increased Ray Bounces, and Caustics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-columns gb-layout-columns-1 one-column\"><div class=\"gb-layout-column-wrap gb-block-layout-column-gap-2 gb-is-responsive-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-column info-box gb-block-layout-column\"><div class=\"gb-block-layout-column-inner\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"note\">Note<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>The Global Illumination sampling for Interior Mode has been improved for KeyShot 8. This may cause scenes to be brighter than in previous versions of KeyShot.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-columns gb-layout-columns-1 one-column\"><div class=\"gb-layout-column-wrap gb-block-layout-column-gap-2 gb-is-responsive-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-column tip-box gb-block-layout-column\"><div class=\"gb-block-layout-column-inner\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tip\">Tip<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>Always enable caustics for the most realistic result, when working with reflective or refractive materials.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-Sourcesoflightinthescene\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sources_of_light_in_the_scene\"><\/span>Sources of light in the scene<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-EnvironmentLighting\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Environment_Lighting\"><\/span>Environment Lighting<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The most general source of lighting a scene in KeyShot is through Environment Lighting. Environment Lighting uses spherical High-dynamic-range imaging (HDRI) to represent the full, physically accurate lighting of an interior or exterior space. See the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot11\/manual\/environments\/\">Environments<\/a>&nbsp;section for more details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-LightSourceMaterials\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Light_Source_Materials\"><\/span>Light Source Materials<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Any piece of geometry can be turned it into a local light source. It\u2019s a completely different approach from traditional rendering applications allowing more flexibility for rendering light accurately in your scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-Typesoflightsources\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Types_of_light_sources\"><\/span>Types of light sources<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot11\/manual\/materials\/material-types\/light-sources\/\">Light Source Material Types<\/a>&nbsp;that provide different lighting capabilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-AreaLightDiffuse\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Area_Light_Diffuse\"><\/span>Area Light Diffuse<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Turn any object into an array of light. A light can be applied to imported geometry, existing geometry or to geometry available in KeyShot via the&nbsp;<em>Edit &gt; Add Geometry<\/em>&nbsp;menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applying a light material is similar to applying other materials. Drag and drop a light material preset from the&nbsp;<em>Library<\/em>&nbsp;window &gt;&nbsp;<em>Materials<\/em>&nbsp;tab &gt;&nbsp;<em>Light<\/em>&nbsp;folder.&nbsp;You can also double-click on an model, go to the&nbsp;<em>Material Type<\/em>&nbsp;dropdown, and choose one of the&nbsp;<em>Light Sources<\/em>&nbsp;from the list.&nbsp;KeyShot will change the object to a physical light.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you change a model to a light source, KeyShot will identify the light source in the&nbsp;<em>Project<\/em> &gt;&nbsp;<em>Scene<\/em>&nbsp;tree by adding a light bulb icon <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" class=\"wp-image-3966\" style=\"width: 16px\" src=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot11\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/07\/lighting_icon.png\" alt=\"\">&nbsp;next to the model name.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-columns gb-layout-columns-1 one-column\"><div class=\"gb-layout-column-wrap gb-block-layout-column-gap-2 gb-is-responsive-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-column tip-box gb-block-layout-column\"><div class=\"gb-block-layout-column-inner\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"apply-a-light-to-a-sphere\">Apply a light to a sphere<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s a simple example for adding a light to a sphere. From the KeyShot menu, select&nbsp;<em>Edit<\/em> &gt;<em>&nbsp;Add Geometry &gt;&nbsp;Sphere<\/em>. Move the sphere to the location for the light. Go to the&nbsp;<em>KeyShot Library<\/em> &gt;&nbsp;<em>Materials<\/em>&nbsp;tab and select the&nbsp;<em>Light<\/em>&nbsp;folder. Drag and drop a light onto the sphere. If you want to reduce the ambient environment light, go to the&nbsp;<em>Project<\/em>&nbsp;window &gt;&nbsp;<em>Environment<\/em>&nbsp;tab &gt; <em>Settings<\/em>&nbsp;and reduce the&nbsp;<em>Brightness<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-MovingaLight\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Moving_a_Light\"><\/span>Moving a Light<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Right-click the part that is assigned as a light and select&nbsp;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" class=\"wp-image-3010\" style=\"width: 16px\" src=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot11\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/07\/move_tool_icon.png\" alt=\"\">&nbsp;<em>Move Model<\/em>. This will activate the Move Tool.&nbsp;You can also select the light source in the&nbsp;<em>Project<\/em>&nbsp;window &gt;&nbsp;<em>Scene<\/em>&nbsp;tab, then select&nbsp;<em>Move Tool<\/em>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<em>Position<\/em>&nbsp;tab. Additionally, the input boxes may be used for more precise positioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Lighting-AnimatingaLight\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Animating_a_Light\"><\/span>Animating a Light<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Since light sources are materials applied to a part, they can be animated just like any other part. Simply select the light in the Scene Tree that you would like to animate, right-click and apply the animation you would like.
