Available for both real-time rendering and local render output, KeyShot\u2019s GPU Mode allows GPU resources to be accessed with one-click to take advantage of multi-GPU performance scaling and the dedicated ray tracing acceleration hardware in NVIDIA RTX-capable GPUs. You may toggle between GPU and CPU as needed. GPU raytracing in KeyShot supports the NVIDIA Maxwell microarchitecture found in the Quadro M6000 or GTX 980 and above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"GPUMode-Requirements\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Requirements\"><\/span>Requirements<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>GPU raytracing in KeyShot supports&nbsp;<strong>NVIDIA GPUs built on Maxwell microarchitecture and supports CUDA Compute Capability 5.2 or later found in the Quadro M6000 or GTX 980 and above.<\/strong> We recommend:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Graphics cards on the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/developer.nvidia.com\/rtx\" target=\"_blank\">NVIDIA RTX<\/a>&nbsp;platform with a minimum of 8 GB memory.<\/li><li>Driver Version: For both KeyShot GPU on both Quadro and GeForce we recommend 451.82 on windows and 450.51.06 on linux respectively.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-columns gb-layout-columns-1 one-column\"><div class=\"gb-layout-column-wrap gb-block-layout-column-gap-2 gb-is-responsive-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-column warning-box gb-block-layout-column\"><div class=\"gb-block-layout-column-inner\">\n<p><strong>Driver version<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>If the driver version for your graphic card is not up to date the GPU icon in the Ribbon will be disabled. You may find NVIDIA drivers&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/Download\/Find.aspx?lang=en-us\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"GPUMode-NVLinkMulti-GPUMemory:\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"NVLink_Multi-GPU_Memory\"><\/span>NVLink Multi-GPU Memory:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>KeyShot GPU mode supports memory scaling for setups with multiple GPUs connected with&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/data-center\/nvlink\/\" target=\"_blank\">NVIDIA NVLink<\/a>.&nbsp;For example, two NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000 GPUs will provide a combined 96 GB of GPU memory. When you have multiple GPUs connected with NVLink, you will see a difference in the available GPU Memory within the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot10\/manual\/user-interface-2\/real-time-view\/\"><em>Heads Up Display<\/em>&nbsp;<\/a>in the Real-time view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"GPUMode-UsingGPUMode\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Using_GPU_Mode\"><\/span>Using GPU Mode<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"GPUMode-Real-timeView\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Real-time_View\"><\/span>Real-time View<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To use GPU mode in the KeyShot Real-time View, select&nbsp;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" src=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot10\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/07\/gpu_icon.png\" class=\"wp-image-2960\" style=\"width: 16px\" alt=\"\"> <em>GPU mode<\/em>&nbsp;on the&nbsp;<em>Ribbon<\/em>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<em>Render, GPU mode<\/em>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<em>Main Menu.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When GPU mode is active the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot10\/manual\/user-interface-2\/ribbon\/\">CPU Usage<\/a>&nbsp;drop-down in the&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot10\/manual\/user-interface-2\/ribbon\/\">Ribbon<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;will be replaced with a GPU usage drop-down, listing the available GPUs. Here you can limit which GPUs are allocated for KeyShot. You can also limit the GPU usage under&nbsp;<em>Render, GPU Usage&nbsp;<\/em>from the Main Menu<em>.&nbsp;<\/em>Here the option is available even when GPU mode is not active, enabling you to set a limit before you enter GPU Mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot10\/manual\/user-interface-2\/real-time-view\/\"><em>Heads Up Display<\/em>&nbsp;<\/a>you can observe the GPU rendering speed with&nbsp;<em>Samples per second,&nbsp;<\/em>as well as the&nbsp;<em>Memory Usage.&nbsp;<\/em>If the GPU runs out of memory, KeyShot will revert to CPU rendering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-columns gb-layout-columns-1 one-column\"><div class=\"gb-layout-column-wrap gb-block-layout-column-gap-2 gb-is-responsive-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-column tip-box gb-block-layout-column\"><div class=\"gb-block-layout-column-inner\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tip\">Tip<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>To make the GPU your default render engine, go to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot10\/manual\/preferences\/general-preferences\/\">Preferences &gt; General<\/a><\/em> and upload a new startup scene with an activated GPU mode.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"GPUMode-LocalRenderOutput\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Local_Render_Output\"><\/span>Local Render Output<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If your GPU meets the requirements listed above you can render in GPU mode locally (Default and Background rendering) as well as send jobs to&nbsp;<em>Network Rendering<\/em>&nbsp;in GPU mode. You can either choose to have the Render Engine follow the Real-time View mode or specify either CPU or GPU in the Render Engine selection in the&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot10\/manual\/render\/render-options\/\">Render Dialog &gt; Options<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"GPUMode-NetworkRendering\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Network_Rendering\"><\/span>Network Rendering<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If your GPU does NOT meet the requirements listed above, you can still send jobs to&nbsp;<em>Network Rendering&nbsp;<\/em>in GPU mode. What causes the difference? When rendering images, the normal and diffuse maps are evaluated to produce the best possible result. These are not included in the real-time denoiser, which uses the fastest version of the denoiser under the given circumstances.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-columns gb-layout-columns-1 one-column\"><div class=\"gb-layout-column-wrap gb-block-layout-column-gap-2 gb-is-responsive-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-column gb-block-layout-column\"><div class=\"gb-block-layout-column-inner\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-columns gb-layout-columns-1 one-column\"><div class=\"gb-layout-column-wrap gb-block-layout-column-gap-2 gb-is-responsive-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-column tip-box gb-block-layout-column\"><div class=\"gb-block-layout-column-inner\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tip\">Tip<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>To curb GPU memory usage, it is best to keep an eye on your textures. The amount of GPU memory required depends on resolution and bit depth, not file format or absolute file size. Doubling the image resolution (e.g. 4K to 8K), quadruples the memory usage per texture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For <strong>8 bit<\/strong> RGBA textures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A single 8 bit 2K texture requires 16 MB.<\/li><li>A single 8 bit 4K texture requires 64 MB.<\/li><li>A single 8 bit 8K texture requires 256 MB.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For <strong>32 bit<\/strong> textures, the memory usage is quadrupled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A single 32 bit 2K texture requires 64 MB.<\/li><li>A single 32 bit 4K texture requires 256 MB.<\/li><li>A single 32 bit 8K texture requires 1024 MB.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>16 bit textures are converted to 32 bit internally on loading them, and thus have the same memory usage as 32 bit textures.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-columns gb-layout-columns-1 one-column\"><div class=\"gb-layout-column-wrap gb-block-layout-column-gap-2 gb-is-responsive-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-column warning-box gb-block-layout-column\"><div class=\"gb-block-layout-column-inner\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"limitations\">Limitations<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>The output of GPU mode matches what you get with traditional CPU rendering in KeyShot, with only a few limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Cutaway material:&nbsp;<\/strong>The cutaway material is not supported in GPU mode and objects with this material will be ignored.<\/li><li><strong>Gem material:&nbsp;<\/strong><em>Ignore Intersecting Geometry<\/em>&nbsp;on the Gem material is not supported in GPU mode and the setting will be ignored without warning.<\/li><li><strong>NURBS:<\/strong>&nbsp;NURBS-only objects will be ignored in GPU mode. Objects that have both triangles and NURBS data, will be shown as triangles.<\/li><li><strong>Legacy textures:<\/strong>&nbsp;Legacy 2d textures (from KeyShot 6 or earlier, labeled with&nbsp;<em>(Legacy)<\/em>&nbsp;in the Material Graph) are not supported. They will be ignored in GPU mode.<\/li><li><strong>Curve geometry:<\/strong>&nbsp;GPU mode has limited support for Curve geometry, e.g. curves imported from&nbsp;Alembic, Max, C4D or Maya. Curve geometry that is not fully supported will either be ignored or appear wrong.<\/li><li><strong>ZSpheres:&nbsp;<\/strong>GPU Mode does not support ZSphere geometry (from ZBrush).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of these limitations will trigger a warning icon&nbsp;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"64\" height=\"64\" class=\"wp-image-6641\" style=\"width: 16px\" src=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot10\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/07\/warning_realtime_icon.png\" alt=\"\">, which will appear in the top right corner of the&nbsp;<em>Real-time View<\/em>.
