This is useful if you would like to apply separate materials to a single part, or when parts are modeled together and you would like to work with them separately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"SplitObjectSurface-HowtoSplitObjectSurfaces\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Split_Object_Surfaces\"><\/span>How to Split Object Surfaces<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Select a part and launch the&nbsp;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" class=\"wp-image-3025\" style=\"width: 16px\" src=\"https:\/\/manual.keyshot.com\/keyshot10\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/07\/split_surface_icon.png\" alt=\"\"><em>Split Object Surfaces<\/em>&nbsp;tool, via the&nbsp;<em>Tools<\/em>&nbsp;section in the Ribbon, or via the context menu in the Real-time View<\/li><li>Choose Splitting Method &#8211; By Splitting Angle or by Polygons<\/li><li>Now you can choose to split out either a single surface via the&nbsp;<em>Marquee, Brush and<\/em> <em>Surface Selection<\/em>&nbsp;or all surfaces with the&nbsp;<em>Part Selection<\/em>.<ul><li>Marquee selection:<ol><li>Hold <em>Shift+LMB<\/em> and drag to use the marquee selection.<\/li><li>Click <em>Split Surface<\/em> to split out the selected area into a separate surface. Now the surface appears in the list of parts.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>Brush selection: <ol><li>Hold down <em>Alt+LMB <\/em>&nbsp;to use the brush selection and \u201cpaint\u201d your selection onto the model.<\/li><li>Click <em>Split Surface<\/em> to split out the selected area into a separate surface. Now the surface appears in the list of parts.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>Surface selection:<ol><li>Click on the surface you want to split out in the preview. This will be highlighted in green. Holding Ctrl\/Cmd while picking surfaces will let you pick multiple.<\/li><li>Click&nbsp;<em>Split Surface<\/em>&nbsp;to split out the selected area into a separate surface. Surfaces highlighted in green can be split into a single surface using the&nbsp;<em>Split Surface<\/em>&nbsp;button. Objects marked in an orange outline can be split into multiple surfaces (depending on splitting method) using the&nbsp;<em>Split All<\/em>&nbsp;button.<br><\/li><li><strong>Splitting Method&nbsp;<\/strong>This determines how the surface(s) will be split out.<ol><li><strong>Splitting Angle:&nbsp;<\/strong>Determine where you would like to split the part based on the angle adjacent polygons. Any polygon that has a face at an angle that is less than the value entered will be highlighted. This is useful when the split is a clear crease or angle in the part.<\/li><li><strong>Polygons:&nbsp;<\/strong>Use this to select individual polygons from the surface.<br><\/li><\/ol><\/li><li><strong>Marquee Selection: <\/strong>Use this to drag a selection frame over the area you want to select.<\/li><li><strong>Brush Selection: <\/strong>With the brush selection you can paint your selection onto the model.<\/li><li><strong>Surface selection&nbsp;<\/strong>This lets you select and split out single surfaces. Click in the preview to select the surface (Hold control to select multiple)<ul><li><strong>Split Surface<\/strong>&nbsp;Split the selected (green) area into a separate surface.<br><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Part Selection&nbsp;<\/strong>This enables you to split out all surfaces of a selected part, based on the splitting method<strong>.<\/strong><ul><li><strong>Parts List:<\/strong>&nbsp;Lists all the parts<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Split All:<\/strong>&nbsp;Select a part in the list and press&nbsp;<em>Split All.<br><\/em><\/li><li><strong>Merge:&nbsp;<\/strong>If you would like to merge certain split parts back, hold shift and select the parts you would like to merge and click&nbsp;<em>Merge Selection<\/em>.<br><\/li><li><strong>Show Wireframe&nbsp;<\/strong>Enable this to show the wireframe of the part.<br><\/li><li><strong>Cancel\/ Apply&nbsp;<\/strong>To finalize the split, click&nbsp;<em>Apply<\/em>&nbsp;to create the new parts in the scene tree.
